The Leprosy Mission's Yorkshire Duck Race

|
Saturday 9 July 2011
After the success of our first Yorkshire Duck Race last year, we decided to do it again this year.and what a day we had!
The torrential downpours during the days immediately before the race made it too dangerous for us to race the ducks on the river. The water was running so fast and deep that you couldn't even see the Stepping Stones even although the weather on the day was beautiful, warm and sunny.
But hey, that wasn't a problem. Ducks fly as well as swim don't they, so we had a sponsored duck chuck instead! What marvellous resourcefulness God has blessed us with!
We invited everyone to pick up a few ducks (1200 in all) and throw them as far as they could on our new marked flight path on the riverside. After a few heats and a final, the winning duck was eventually won by a lady from Gargrave near Skipton.
Our joyful and happy fundraising day continued with an open air celebration service of praise, worship and prayer on the banks of the river.
Our thanks go to the Power Praise Band from Halifax, who provided great live music and to the Halifax Street Angels and friends who provided some excellent side shows and duck retrievers (none got lost and they are now safely tucked away in their nest until next year).
We thank everyone who came on the day and of course, to everyone who sponsored a duck. We raised over £1,800 from this event. See you next year!
