The Leprosy Mission Bluebell Walk of Hope
Saturday 24 April 2010
This time 31 walkers made the 6 miles around the Hambleton Circuit at Rutland Water. Two more determined and very experienced walkers, namely Richard Baggott and Ron Curtis, walked the full distance of 20 miles. Well done, guys, and thank you for doing this every year for The Leprosy Mission.
The weather was beautiful, with everyone being sensibly attired and in excellent spirits, walking occasionally alongside the beautiful fragrance of the splendid bluebells. The walkers represented 16 churches from Rutland, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire and South Yorkshire.
Another county was also represented - this time Cambridgeshire, as Keith Nicholson, the Deputy National Director from our Head Office in Peterborough, came along to join us - great to see you there, Keith!
We're hoping to raise around £3,000 to help people living with the effects of leprosy who receive treatment at Naini Community Hospital, Uttar Pradesh, India. Our East Central project includes providing protective footwear, reconstructive surgery, self-help groups, low-cost housing and community education through the 'Catch Them Young' programme.
The sixth Rutland Round will be probably be Saturday 10 April 2011 - hope to see you there, folks!
Thank you and God bless you all for your magnificent efforts.
