The Great Leprosy Mission Swim challenge
2010
The Great Leprosy Mission Swim challengeExercise is one of the keys to a healthy life and if you enjoy the benefits of swimming, why not combine that with raising vital funds for the work of The Leprosy Mission?  LEPROSY IS CURABLE and £20 can help someone recover from this disabling disease.  Anyone can take part in this challenge regardless of ability.

You can swim at any time in your local pool.  Set yourself the challenge of swimming 20 lengths and raising £20.  If the distance is too great (or not far enough!),  swim what you can but raise sponsorship per length, knowing that you have given someone a hope for the future. Why not take a photograph and send or email it to John.  We would love to see who swam in the most interesting place and if you're willing, we can publish the photos on our website.

Your swim could help someone turn the tide against leprosy.

The Great North Swim
Lake WindermereIf you are a strong swimmer and would like a bigger challenge, have you thought of joining the Great North Swim?

For the past two years, The Great North Run team have organised a one mile swim across Lake Windermere in Cumbria. This is a very challenging event and places are limited and are taken up very quickly. The swim usually takes place over a two day period in September and applications should be submitted to the race between Sept-Oct of the previous year.  Find out more

If you are swimming for The Leprosy Mission, please register yourself as an individual with The Great North Swim team.  It is important that you can swim one mile remembering that swimming in a lake is vastly different to swimming in a pool and swimmers must wear a wet suit as the temperature of the lake at that time of year can be as low as 15oc.

Participating in this swim could be your challenge for 2011 as a lot of preparation is needed for this event; a fact that those who sponsor you will fully appreciate.  You could use the Great Leprosy Mission Swim challenge to train for the Great North Swim and raise money twice for people affected by leprosy.

Five Bridges Walk of Hope
Saturday 25 September 2010

This year our Walk of Hope is city bound.  It is a short walk of four miles, crossing the five bridges of the Tyne at Newcastle.  We will start at Redheugh Bridge and finish at the Millennium Bridge in Baltic Square.  A quiz based on the area surrounding the bridges will be part of the walk so you can get sponsors for the walk and the number of questions you answer correctly.

Please register with John by phone, email or post to The Leprosy Mission, PO BOX 461, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear NE8 9DG

The closing date for entries is Saturday 11 September 2010
