Summer Walk of Hope 2009

Over 60 participants enjoyed a five mile summer Walk of Hope on Saturday 18 July 2009 in the beautiful 2,400 acres of Sutton Park. Remarkably, the Park is within 10km (6 miles) of the heart of Birmingham. It is one of Europe's largest, consisting of woodlands, heath lands and wetlands and is designated a National Nature Reserve by Natural England. The Park also has many species of wildlife, uncommon elsewhere in the West Midlands region and is a remnant of an extensive forest that used to cover much of the Midlands. Sutton Park has retained many ancient features including prehistoric mounds and ruins as well as a Roman road making it of great interest to historical enthusiasts.
The walkers, whose ages range from six to 86 years, took advantage of the first bit of sunshine in a while and benefitted from a true countryside experience. The walk began at the town gate; with some doing the 5km walk and the more energetic doing the walk twice to make it a 10km walk.
All monies raised from this sponsored event will go towards The Leprosy Mission's Faizabad hospital and vocational training centre in India. Watch this space to find out how much was raised.
We are already looking forward to seeing everyone again next year - why not bring a friend along to join in the fun?
