Volunteer with us

There are many ways that you can use your skills to support the work of The Leprosy Mission. Why not consider joining with us to become part of a network of supporters committing their time and talents to help people affected by leprosy?

Why volunteer?

Our Volunteer Speakers are vital to raise awareness that leprosy is still with us, and to share our vision of defeating leprosy and transforming lives. Volunteers receive full training and support, and join a team of like-minded people. Opportunities are fully flexible around your time and what you feel able to do. There are regular opportunities to meet together, increase your knowledge and even travel abroad to visit the Leprosy Mission projects. Most importantly, you will be continuing the work of Jesus, bringing hope and healing to people affected by leprosy.

Volunteering your skills to help people affected by leprosy means you'll be helping to change the lives of some of the world's most marginalised people. Watch the video below to see what happened when a group of volunteer speakers visited India in 2017 to gain first-hand experience of our work there - a life-changing trip that they can now speak about to churches and groups.

What Volunteer Speakers say

Jennie Marfleet, Dorset

"It filled a big void in my life after losing my husband Tony following 7years of care at home and in a nursing home. It felt that life was no longer worth living and this role has given huge fulfilment and joy.

I had the privilege of making two trips, first to Nepal in 2014  and then to India in 2016 to see the work of TLM firsthand. I previously knew very little about the nature of the disease and found the work of the staff to be totally inspirational. I came home deeply humbled and challenged and determined to do my bit for these dear people.

Giving presentations is a real joy, in spite of the hard work and effort needed. I never know what the venue will be like and as it is often to address a small group of believers. I receive great blessing from their worship, fellowship and support. I am frequently moved to tears as I share my stories. Venues vary enormously, I have also spoken at a beautiful hotel as the after lunch speaker. Another highlight was to be sandwiched in the middle of  ballroom dancing classes in a huge ballroom at our local helicopter factory!!

The resources provided by the Mission have improved enormously and are a great support."
