Founded in 1874, The Leprosy Mission is bringing healing and
restoration to some 200,000 people affected by leprosy in
over 28 countries. Through our own hospitals and programmes
and in partnership with churches, voluntary agencies, governments
and other groups, the Mission's work continues.
Over the years, many have heard God's call and given their
lives to care for those affected by leprosy. Today, many prefer
to contribute a few months or years rather than a lifetime;
we call these short-termers. They give valuable service to
God and leprosy sufferers over a specified time, and we believe
they themselves are enriched by the experience.
People who go . . .
are generally professional health workers.
We also offer opportunities for medical students looking to carry out their elective in South Asia. With a minimum period of six to eight weeks, an elective placement will give you the opportunity to experience the work of TLM, alongside our medical staff dealing with both leprosy and general medicine.

Volunteering . . .
My eight week visit to Anandaban hospital in 2006 was as an independent volunteer. I had previously been on the Trek for Treatment organised by The Leprosy Mission to raise funds for leprosy affected people. God took care of me at every stage of the journey as well as throughout the trip. We avoided severe thunderstorms during takeoff due to a delay with the cargo and saw God’s firework display as spectacular flashes of lightening lit up the sky during the flight over Northern India. On arrival, I was delighted to be met by staff from Anandaban Hospital.
