Helping farmers out of poverty

In Eastern Shan, Myanmar, many people affected by leprosy - like Nabo, pictured above, have settled in leprosy villages after being rejected by people in their communities. They live hand-to-mouth, surviving on subsistence farming which is a constant worry for them. Will their crops be successful and provide enough to feed their families?

The Leprosy Mission has been working with people affected by leprosy in Eastern Shan, teaching them a new system of rice farming developed to improve yields. Initial results have been amazing - farmers have reported needing half the usual levels of seed for planting, while their harvest has doubled. Nabo is delighted with her new crops and the fact that she can now not only provide enough food for her family, but also has enough left to sell, earning a good income.

Changing lives together

There are hundreds more leprosy-affected people like Nabo in Myanmar who are still going hungry. By holding an event at your Church, workplace or with your friends and family, and encouraging a contribution, you will help more people access a more nutritious diet and escape a life of hunger.
