Terms and Conditions for Cycle for Chanchaga June 22nd 2024

The event is organised by The Leprosy Mission Great Britain (TLMGB) to raise funds for our orthopaedic centre in Nigeria and to encourage people to enjoy cycling around Peterborough. We have created these terms and conditions for the safety of everyone taking part in the event. All cyclists should read these carefully before agreeing to take part.

We recommend that you are prepared for situations such as adverse weather conditions, mechanical problems and flat tyres. It’s a good idea to carry the following items: refreshments, mobile phone, bike lights, bike pump, puncture repair kit, spare tubes, multi-tool, waterproof clothing.

Ride Leaders

Cyclists will participate in groups, dependent upon their predicted finish time. Each group will be led by a Ride Leader who is a member of TLMGB staff. Ride Leaders will have access to an emergency phone number and will be responsible for navigating the group throughout the route. All cyclists are expected to observe the rules of the Highway Code and follow the instructions of any Ride Leaders, organisers and where necessary, the emergency services.

Cyclists’ health

All cyclists should ensure they are in good health, fit and able to ride safely and in accordance with the Highway Code for the duration of the event (45-50 miles).

Cycling is a physical activity and can be strenuous. Cyclists are required to advise their Ride Leader of any health or medical conditions that may affect their participation. Any cyclist who has a doubt about their health or fitness, or who has a medical condition or injury that could be affected by exercise (particularly a heart condition), should consult their doctor before participating.

Cyclists must not participate in this event under the influence of alcohol or drugs (complying with the Road Traffic Act 1988) as this will compromise the safety of yourself, other cyclists and members of the public.

Cycles

The event will take place on the Green Wheel, which is a mixture of traffic-free paths, quiet roads and urban cycle lanes. All cyclists must ensure that their cycles are in a roadworthy condition, The Ride Leader’s decision shall be final as to whether a cycle is of an appropriate type or condition to be used this event.

Helmets

For your safety, wearing of appropriate helmets is compulsory during this event.

Children

This event is not suitable for children aged under 16. Young people aged 16 and over must register for the event and be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Animals

No pets or other animals are permitted to attend this event.

Earphones

Cyclists must not wear earphones during the event as the route includes public roads and cycle paths.

Photography

The Ride Leaders and organisers may take photos throughout the day for publicity purposes, including sharing on TLMGB’s social media channels. If you do not wish to be photographed or do not wish a young person aged 16-17 under your supervision to be photographed, it is your responsibility to notify the Ride Leader and individual taking photos.

Photographs and video may be taken by a cyclist for their own personal record. All other cyclists should be made aware of this. Those wishing to take photos are requested to be open and honest about this. If any cyclist or organiser objects, then all other participants should be requested not to take any photos.

Photographs and video may also be taken by individuals not directly connected to the event, for whatever reason, and cyclists should be aware that the organiser has no control over this.

Risk, liability and insurance

Whilst TLMGB will do all in our reasonable control to make the event as safe as possible, all cyclists take part at their own risk.

TLMGB has public liability insurance, but this will not cover cyclists for personal injury or loss or damage to their cycles or other equipment.
