The Leprosy Mission England and Wales is based in Peterborough, England. We employ approximately 40 staff and a team of volunteers across England and Wales.

Deputy Head of Programmes

Peterborough, circa £40,000pa
Are you looking for a new challenge? Do you want to be instrumental in ending one of the world’s most ancient diseases and transforming the lives of those who have been affected by it, across Asia and Africa? Are you passionate about international development, global health and disability? Do you have experience of managing people and institutionally-funded development programmes?

You will have a passion for development and be an inspirational mentor and manager of people. Having at least five years’ work experience in an NGO or similar setting and a degree in either International Development, Business, Disability, Global Health or other relevant discipline, you will be self-motivated with the capacity to work on your own initiative and will have excellent cross-cultural communication skills.

Working with Head of Policy and Programmes in the UK, Overseas Country Leaders, appointed in-country partners and your team, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of TLMEW-funded programmes across 10 countries. You will be required to travel overseas for approximately 12 weeks per year, to undertake capacity development training and mentor partner staff, enthuse and guide project steering committees, monitor and develop programmes and provide advice and support to field partners.

The Leprosy Mission England and Wales (TLMEW) is a leading international Christian development organisation with over 140 years’ experience and is part of the TLM worldwide family. TLMEW is active in 10 countries and we have over 50 projects addressing the causes and consequences of leprosy, ranging from health and livelihoods to advocacy, water and sanitation. TLMEW has a zero tolerence approach to any harm to, or exploitation of, our beneficiaries, staff and communities we come into contact with. Recruitment to roles within TLMEW includes, in particular, criminal record checks and the collection of relevant references. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from joining us as an employee; this will depend on the circumstances of any offences. Safeguarding is our top priority in everything we do. Empathy with the Christian ethos of the organisation is essential, as is an ability to work with all faiths.
